10-Day All-Inclusive Kenya Safari Overview
This 10-day all-inclusive Kenya safari combines three of the country’s most rewarding wildlife destinations—Amboseli National Park, Masai Mara National Reserve and Samburu National Reserve—in one carefully paced private itinerary. Designed for travellers who want to experience different Kenyan landscapes without spending long days driving between distant parks, the safari uses scheduled domestic flights between key safari regions and a private 4×4 Land Cruiser for game drives.
Begin in Amboseli National Park, renowned for its large elephant herds, open plains and spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro when weather conditions are clear. Game drives offer opportunities to encounter elephants, lions, buffalo, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, hippos and abundant birdlife against one of Kenya’s most recognisable landscapes.
Continue to the Masai Mara, one of Africa’s most celebrated wildlife areas. Its open savannah supports impressive populations of lions, elephants, buffalo, cheetahs and other plains wildlife, while leopards may also be encountered. From approximately July to October, the wider Mara–Serengeti ecosystem is associated with the seasonal Great Migration, although wildlife movements and river crossings cannot be guaranteed.
Your safari then takes you north to Samburu National Reserve, where the drier landscape provides a striking contrast to Amboseli and the Masai Mara. Samburu is particularly known for northern Kenya species such as Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Beisa oryx and Somali ostrich, alongside elephants, big cats and diverse birdlife.
This private Kenya fly-in safari includes selected mid-range accommodation, specified meals, park fees, scheduled domestic flights, airstrip transfers and private game drives as detailed in the itinerary. With less time spent on long road transfers and more time devoted to wildlife viewing, it is an excellent choice for couples, families, friends and first-time visitors looking for a comprehensive Kenya safari.
Why This 10-Day Kenya Safari Itinerary Works
This itinerary is designed to give you a broad Kenya safari experience without spending unnecessary days on long overland transfers. By combining Amboseli, Masai Mara and Samburu, you experience three contrasting wildlife regions while scheduled domestic flights help maximise your time on safari.
Three Distinct Safari Destinations
Rather than concentrating your entire trip in one ecosystem, this safari combines three very different regions. Amboseli is known for its elephants and Mount Kilimanjaro landscapes, the Masai Mara for its abundant predators and open savannah, and Samburu for its rugged northern scenery and distinctive wildlife species.
More Safari Time, Less Road Travel
Kenya’s major wildlife reserves are separated by considerable distances. Using scheduled domestic flights between key safari regions reduces lengthy road transfers and gives you more time for game drives, wildlife viewing and relaxation at your camps and lodges.
Private 4×4 Game Drives
Game drives are conducted in a private 4×4 Land Cruiser with a professional safari guide. Unlike a shared safari vehicle, a private vehicle provides greater flexibility over the pace of your game drives, photography stops and wildlife-viewing interests.
Excellent Wildlife Diversity
The route combines classic East African wildlife with species associated with northern Kenya. Alongside elephants, lions, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, cheetahs and other plains wildlife, Samburu provides opportunities to look for Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Beisa oryx and Somali ostrich.
Well-Paced 10-Day Itinerary
With nine nights in Kenya, the itinerary allows meaningful time in each major safari region rather than turning the trip into a sequence of rushed one-night stops. The balance of flights, game drives and lodge time makes the safari suitable for first-time visitors as well as returning travellers who want to experience several of Kenya’s leading wildlife areas in one journey.

Wildlife Highlights – Amboseli, Masai Mara & Samburu
One of the strengths of this 10-day Kenya safari is the variety of wildlife and landscapes encountered across three distinct ecosystems. Each destination offers a different safari experience, from Amboseli's elephant herds to the predator-rich Masai Mara and the specialised wildlife of northern Kenya.
Amboseli – Elephants & Kilimanjaro
Amboseli National Park is particularly famous for its large elephant herds and open landscapes beneath Mount Kilimanjaro. Wildlife commonly encountered includes elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos and numerous antelope species, while lions, cheetahs and spotted hyenas may also be seen.
When conditions are clear, Kilimanjaro provides one of Kenya's most memorable wildlife photography backdrops.
Masai Mara – Big Cats & Seasonal Great Migration
The Masai Mara National Reserve supports an exceptional diversity of wildlife and is one of Kenya's leading destinations for predator viewing. Lions, cheetahs and spotted hyenas are regularly encountered, while leopards may also be seen.
The reserve is also home to elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos and numerous plains species.
From approximately July to October, migrating wildebeest and zebra may move through the Mara ecosystem as part of the Great Migration. Migration timing, herd locations and river crossings vary according to rainfall and natural wildlife movements and cannot be guaranteed.
Samburu – Special Five & Northern Kenya Wildlife
Samburu National Reserve introduces a very different dry-country ecosystem and several species associated with northern Kenya.
A particular highlight is searching for the Samburu Special Five:
Grevy's zebra
Reticulated giraffe
Gerenuk
Beisa oryx
Somali ostrich
Samburu is also an excellent destination for elephants, while lions and leopards may be encountered along with many other mammals and bird species.
Three Ecosystems, One Kenya Safari
Combining Amboseli, Masai Mara and Samburu gives you a broader wildlife experience than concentrating on a single reserve. Wildlife sightings are always influenced by season, weather and natural animal movements, so no individual species or wildlife event can be guaranteed.
Best Time for a 10-Day Kenya Safari
This 10-day Kenya safari can be enjoyed year-round, with each season offering a different wildlife experience across Amboseli, Masai Mara and Samburu. The best time for your trip depends on whether your priority is the Great Migration, general wildlife viewing, photography, fewer visitors or seasonal value.
| Travel Period | What to Expect |
|---|---|
| January–March | Generally warm conditions with good wildlife viewing. A rewarding period for Amboseli, Masai Mara and Samburu, with excellent photographic opportunities. |
| April–May | The main rainy season can bring greener landscapes, fewer visitors and attractive seasonal rates. Some roads and game-viewing areas may become more challenging after heavy rain. |
| June | Landscapes begin drying and wildlife viewing is generally rewarding. A good period before the busiest migration-season months in the Masai Mara. |
| July–October | Peak safari season and the main period associated with the Great Migration in the Masai Mara. Excellent general wildlife viewing, but accommodation and flights should be booked well in advance. |
| November–December | Short rains can refresh the landscapes, with good resident wildlife viewing and fewer visitors during parts of the season. |
Best Time for the Great Migration
For travellers particularly interested in the Great Migration in the Masai Mara, July to October is generally the key period to consider.
However, the migration is a natural, constantly moving wildlife phenomenon. The exact location of the herds, timing of their arrival in the Mara and Mara River crossings cannot be guaranteed for a particular day or safari departure.
Best Time for Amboseli & Samburu
Amboseli and Samburu offer rewarding resident wildlife viewing throughout the year. During drier periods, wildlife may concentrate around reliable water sources, while greener months can provide attractive landscapes, birdlife and fewer safari vehicles.
For peak-season travel—particularly July to October and the Christmas/New Year period—early booking is recommended because preferred safari lodges, camps and domestic flights can fill quickly.
Who Is This 10-Day Kenya Safari Best For?

This 10-day all-inclusive Kenya safari is ideal for travellers who want to experience several of Kenya's leading wildlife destinations while reducing long overland transfers through scheduled domestic flights.
First-Time Safari Travellers
Amboseli, Masai Mara and Samburu provide an excellent introduction to Kenya, combining varied landscapes, abundant wildlife and three distinctive safari ecosystems.
Couples & Honeymooners
The combination of scenic fly-in travel, private game drives and comfortable safari lodges makes the itinerary well suited to couples. Luxury lodge and special-occasion upgrades can also be arranged.
Families
A private 4×4 Land Cruiser provides families with greater flexibility over the pace of game drives and wildlife stops. Family-friendly accommodation can be selected according to children's ages and room requirements.
Wildlife & Photography Enthusiasts
From Amboseli's elephants and Kilimanjaro landscapes to Masai Mara predators and Samburu's northern species, the itinerary offers varied wildlife and photographic opportunities.
Friends & Small Private Groups
Travelling together allows friends and small groups to share one private safari itinerary while benefiting from more favourable per-person pricing as group size increases.
Travellers Who Prefer Less Road Travel
Scheduled domestic flights connect the major safari regions, making this itinerary particularly suitable for travellers who want to spend more time on safari and less time on long-distance road transfers.
Expert Safari Insights & What Our Guides Look For
A successful safari is not simply about driving through the reserve looking for animals. Our guides use knowledge of wildlife behaviour, habitats, weather conditions, water sources and recent sightings to decide where to concentrate each game drive.
Because this 10-day safari combines three different ecosystems, the guiding approach changes as you travel from Amboseli to the Masai Mara and Samburu.
Amboseli – Elephants, Water & Kilimanjaro
In Amboseli, our guides pay particular attention to elephant movements between feeding areas and the park's wetlands. Early mornings can also provide some of the best opportunities for clear Mount Kilimanjaro views, although visibility always depends on weather conditions.
Rather than simply covering as much distance as possible, your guide can adjust the route according to wildlife activity and recent sightings.
Masai Mara – Predators & Plains Wildlife
In the Masai Mara, guides look for signs of predator activity, including the behaviour of prey species, tracks and information about recent sightings.
During the migration season, attention also turns to the movements of wildebeest and zebra across the wider ecosystem. Herd locations can change quickly, so daily conditions are more useful than following a fixed game-drive route.
Samburu – River Life & Northern Species
In Samburu, the Ewaso Nyiro River and surrounding habitats can play an important role in wildlife viewing, particularly during dry conditions.
Your guide will also look for the distinctive northern species associated with the region, including Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Beisa oryx and Somali ostrich, alongside elephants and big cats.
Why a Private Safari Vehicle Matters
Because your game drives are conducted in a private 4×4 Land Cruiser, your guide has greater flexibility to adapt each outing to your interests.
Photographers may prefer more time at individual sightings, while families may want shorter game drives or additional breaks. Wildlife enthusiasts can spend longer following tracks, observing animal behaviour or exploring less-visited areas when conditions allow.
This flexibility is one of the main advantages of a private Kenya safari: the game-drive experience can respond to what is happening in the reserve rather than following a rigid shared-group schedule.
