3 Day Serengeti Group Tour Overview

This 3-day Serengeti group safari from Arusha is designed for travellers who want to focus their limited safari time on Serengeti National Park rather than combining several parks into a rushed itinerary. The safari includes two nights in Central Serengeti, allowing a full day for game viewing in addition to wildlife viewing on the arrival day.

Travelling on a scheduled group departure allows solo travellers, couples and friends to share the cost of the 4×4 safari vehicle and professional driver-guide while still enjoying the same core Serengeti wildlife experience.

Why Choose This Serengeti Safari?

  • Two nights inside the Serengeti safari circuit

  • Full Day 2 dedicated to Serengeti game viewing

  • Central Serengeti location with excellent year-round resident wildlife

  • Solo travellers can join scheduled departures

  • Mid-range accommodation at Seronera Wildlife Lodge or similar

  • Scheduled departures every Monday, Friday and Saturday

Detailed 3-Day Serengeti Group Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha → Serengeti National Park – Afternoon Game Drive

Your 3-day Serengeti group safari from Arusha begins with an early-morning departure from Arusha. After meeting your safari driver-guide and fellow travellers, you will travel west toward the Serengeti in a shared 4×4 safari vehicle.

The journey takes you through the northern Tanzania highlands and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area before continuing toward Naabi Hill Gate, the main southeastern entrance to Serengeti National Park. The drive from Arusha to the Serengeti typically takes approximately 6–8 hours, including normal stops and park-entry formalities. Actual travel time can vary depending on traffic, road conditions and stops along the route.

Lunch is normally taken en route or as a packed picnic, depending on the day's schedule.

After entering the Serengeti, your journey becomes an en-route game drive as you travel toward your accommodation. Wildlife sightings vary, but the central and southern approaches to the Serengeti can offer opportunities to see zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, elephants, buffalo, antelopes and predators such as lions and cheetahs.

Arrive at your safari camp or lodge in the late afternoon or early evening for dinner and overnight.

Meals: Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Your confirmed Serengeti safari camp/lodge or similar
Safari activity: En-route/afternoon game drive
Driving time: Approximately 6–8 hours, depending on road conditions, stops and park formalities

Day 2: Full-Day Game Drive in Serengeti National Park

After an early breakfast, depart with your driver-guide for a full day of game viewing in Serengeti National Park.

Rather than following a fixed route, your guide will plan the day's game drive according to recent wildlife movements, seasonal conditions and information from other guides in the park. Depending on the time of year and the location of your accommodation, you may explore areas of the Central Serengeti (Seronera) and other accessible wildlife areas where game-viewing conditions are favourable.

The Serengeti supports an exceptional diversity of wildlife. Commonly encountered species include wildebeest, zebras, giraffes, buffalo, elephants, gazelles and other plains game. Lions are frequently encountered in suitable areas, while cheetahs, leopards and hyenas are also possible. All wildlife sightings remain natural and therefore cannot be guaranteed.

Lunch is normally enjoyed at a designated picnic site, allowing you to maximise your time inside the park. Depending on the day's wildlife activity and operational arrangements, your guide may adjust the timing of stops and game drives.

During migration seasons, your guide will look for opportunities to locate Great Migration herds where they are reasonably accessible from the itinerary, but the location and timing of the migration are determined by rainfall and natural grazing patterns. Specific herd locations, river crossings and individual wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Continue game viewing during the afternoon before returning to your camp or lodge for dinner and overnight.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Your confirmed Serengeti safari camp/lodge or similar
Safari activity: Full-day Serengeti game drive

Day 3: Serengeti → Arusha – Final Game Viewing & Return Journey

Begin your final morning in the Serengeti with breakfast at your camp or lodge. Depending on the day's departure schedule and the location of your accommodation, there may be opportunities for game viewing while driving toward the park exit.

This is primarily a return travel day rather than another full-day game drive, so expectations should be realistic. Wildlife may still be encountered along the route, but the priority is reaching Arusha at a practical time.

After leaving Serengeti National Park, continue through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the northern Tanzania highlands toward Arusha. Lunch is provided according to the day's arrangements and may be taken as a packed lunch or during a scheduled stop en route.

Arrival in Arusha is generally expected in the late afternoon or early evening, although the exact time can vary considerably because of road conditions, traffic, park formalities and stops during the journey.

Your safari ends on arrival in Arusha at the agreed drop-off point.

Meals: Breakfast & Lunch
Safari activity: En-route wildlife viewing and return transfer
Driving time: Approximately 6–8 hours, subject to route and conditions

Important Advice for Flights After the Safari

We recommend not booking an international or time-sensitive flight too close to your expected return to Arusha. Road conditions, traffic, park formalities and wildlife stops can affect the actual arrival time.

If you are flying from Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) on the same day, please share your flight details with our team before booking so we can advise whether the connection is operationally realistic. Where possible, an overnight stay in Arusha before an international departure provides a safer and more relaxed schedule.

Serengeti Wildlife & Best Time to Visit

Serengeti National Park offers rewarding wildlife viewing throughout the year. This 3-day safari focuses primarily on Central Serengeti (Seronera), an area known for its resident wildlife and year-round game-viewing opportunities. Wildlife sightings vary naturally by season, rainfall and animal movements.

Wildlife You May See

Central Serengeti supports a wide variety of wildlife, including lions, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, gazelles and numerous bird species.

The Seronera area is particularly well known for predator sightings because of its permanent water sources and resident prey populations. However, wildlife is free-ranging and specific sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Great Migration

The Great Wildebeest Migration moves through different parts of the Serengeti ecosystem throughout the year, with the timing and location influenced mainly by rainfall and grazing conditions.

This 3-day itinerary is based primarily in Central Serengeti, so it should not be marketed as guaranteeing a particular stage of the Great Migration. Depending on your travel dates and the movement of the herds, migrating wildebeest and zebras may be present in or around the areas visited during your safari.

If witnessing a particular stage of the migration—such as the Ndutu calving season or northern Serengeti river-crossing period—is your main priority, consider a longer Great Migration safari that can be routed according to the season.

Best Time for This Safari

This Serengeti group safari operates year-round, with each season offering a different wildlife experience.

January–March: Excellent general wildlife viewing. Large migration herds and calving activity are often concentrated farther south around Ndutu and the southern Serengeti, depending on rainfall and herd movements.

April–May: The greener season brings lush landscapes, fewer visitors and good resident wildlife viewing, although periods of rain should be expected.

June–October: The drier months generally provide excellent wildlife viewing as animals gather around reliable water sources. Migration movements gradually shift through the western and northern parts of the wider Serengeti ecosystem.

November–December: Short rains bring greener landscapes, while migration movements begin shifting south again. Central Serengeti continues to offer good resident wildlife viewing.

Central Serengeti supports rewarding resident wildlife throughout the year, making this 3-day safari suitable for year-round travel.

How the Serengeti Group Safari Works

This is a scheduled group-joining safari from Arusha, allowing solo travellers, couples and friends to share the safari vehicle and driver-guide with other guests travelling on the same departure. It is a cost-effective way to experience Serengeti National Park without booking a private safari.

Departure Days: Scheduled departures operate every Monday, Friday and Saturday, subject to availability.

Group Size: Approximately 6–7 travellers per safari vehicle, depending on the final group configuration.

Safari Vehicle: Game drives and transfers are operated in a shared 4×4 Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof, providing good visibility for wildlife viewing and photography.

Solo Travellers: Solo travellers are welcome to join scheduled departures and do not need to form their own group. The group-joining rate starts from USD 750 per person when sharing accommodation. A private room can be arranged at an additional cost, subject to availability.

Departure & Pickup: The safari starts and ends in Arusha. Your exact pickup location and departure time will be confirmed before the safari.

Luggage: We recommend soft-sided luggage and packing only what you need for the safari, as luggage space in shared safari vehicles is limited.

Group Experience: Because this is a shared safari, game-drive schedules, stops and daily departure times are coordinated by the driver-guide for the group as a whole.

Travellers who prefer an exclusive vehicle, greater flexibility with game-drive times or a customised itinerary can request a private Serengeti safari instead.

Practical Information

Start & End: This group safari starts and ends in Arusha, Tanzania. Your final pickup location and departure time will be confirmed before travel.

Road Journey: The drive between Arusha and Serengeti typically takes approximately 6–8 hours each way, depending on traffic, road conditions, stops and park-entry formalities.

Safari Pace: This is an active three-day itinerary. Days 1 and 3 include significant road travel, while Day 2 is the main full-day game drive in Serengeti National Park.

Luggage: Soft-sided luggage is recommended because storage space in shared safari vehicles is limited. Pack only what you need for the three-day safari.

Clothing: Pack lightweight, neutral-coloured clothing, comfortable shoes, sun protection and a warm layer for cooler early mornings and evenings.

Fly-In Option: Scheduled flights between Arusha and Serengeti are available but are not included in this road-based group safari. Ask us about a fly-in Serengeti safari if you prefer to reduce driving time.

Onward Travel: Avoid booking a tightly timed international or onward flight immediately after your scheduled return to Arusha, as traffic, road conditions and other delays can affect the final arrival time.

Dietary Requirements: Please advise us of any dietary requirements or allergies before travel so arrangements can be made with the accommodation.

Travel Insurance: Comprehensive travel insurance covering medical emergencies, trip interruption and personal belongings is strongly recommended.
